BMW Beats Harley-Davidson in State of Michigan Police Bike Performance Test
In the first documented and publicly released test of its kind, the State of Michigan recently made public the results of an evaluation of performance between BMW and Harley-Davidson police motors.
We first learned about this study from Craig Fitzgerald at Hemmings Motor News (http:// www.hemings.com) He summarized the study, noting:

"The BMW was able to negotiate the nine-turn, six-lap handling course as much as 32 seconds faster than the FLHTP Electra Glide.

Acceleration and top speed tests also went to the BMW, which achieved a top speed of 130 mph, vs. Harley Davidson's 103 and 107 top speeds. In the quarter mile, the BMW accelerated at least a second and a half faster than the Harley, at a speed 8-mph faster.

From 60 miles per hour, the BMW stopped an amazing 21 feet sooner than either of the Harley Davidsons, or approximately a car-length and a half.

Wild Bill and Wayne sound like two frustrated morning radio talk show hacks. Harleys are pleasent to look at, pleasent to ride, and are in a class of their own. So they don't muster the quickness tests. After all, plastic is lighter than quality steel and chrome. To wit: A Harley falls down, you pick it up,brush it off,say your sorry and jump back on the saddle. A BMw falls down, the owner damn near swallows his tongue, has his rider pick it up for him, calls a tow truck and writes a check for $1800.00. "Can I have a witness?"

Red Bull is correct,plus you can buy 1 and 1/2 HARLEY'S for the price of one BMW.Does BMW had a lease plan for fleet police motorcycles?I think not,plus one police car is worth less than a BMW!
