Found this on a BMW site (yes, it's pro BMW, but definitely objective). It's a collection of links to various articles, reports and evaluations of police bikes by motor officers. I can hear JJ and RedBull scoffing now! Check some of the links, the articles and opinions are worth reading, particularly the Colorado Springs PD evaluation.

Ever find yourself tangenting from one link to the next?

BMW vs. H****y vs. Kawasaki, police bikes:

They don't like shaft drive (weak), tires (not run flat), clutch (prefer wet, especially for low speed [funny they don't mention aux cooling]), "torquing" (longitudnal crankshaft)...
Enjoy!

That's because the BMw horn always works and is never in the shop for repairs!

Sure, BMW continues to be the largest selling Police Bike in the world, but add to this the fact that they've just unveiled their newest addition to the LE Bike lineup. The R1200RT-P was just premiered at November's Milipol, the International Exhibition of Internal State Security, Police Equipment, Industrial Site Security and Civil Defense. It will begin production in March 2006 and, reportedly, will be available in the US by May.

and, no, it's not belt driven, as is the 2nd most popular Police Bike in the world.

Sorry JJ!

JJ,
Take a few moments to look at the labels in your clothing. Then take a look at the labels on your household appliances, compare the warranties and MSRP's on our respective motorcycles. Then we'll talk about buying American. I used to love when people made smart remarks about the Kawasaki Police bike I rode and to watch their faces when I told them it was made in Lincoln,NE by Americans. Fortunately, when we want good furniture, we buy American, or toilet paper or paper towels, food products, there are a lot of things that I would only buy American. . . motorcycles, sorry, that's not one of them.

JJ, pay TopGun no never mind. He is just irritable from swatting flys from around his BMw. He also doesn't repect his elders. You were riding a H.D. (mans machine) when he was still in elementary school and just dreaming of driving a german flying machine. Red Bull
