Top Gun

It's 1500 hours, 10/08/2005. Exactly one year ago this moment, the ambulance was arriving to pick up the wounded Walshy on East Hill Rd. in Georgetown after we waited 40 minutes. Unbeknownst to me, my burly riding partner was leaking internally from a torn spleen and we'd later learn he suffered some broke ribs and a broke shoulder.
Thanks to Willis Warne, Sr., who was working on his roof, we were able to summon the ambulance. Neither Walshy's or my Nextel phones were in a coverage area. Otherwise, I'd have had to leave him on the roadside to fetch help.
In an hour, after calling John Falge and Stu Cavuto, who quickly saddled the horses and got the Cavalry running, I'd be standing next to Walshy, as he laid precariously on a too small gurney, and watching his BP drop like a stone! 51/28 and my heart was in my throat. I'd already been b*tched out by Mrs. Walsh, how was I to tell her he was dead? She'd really be pissed at me!
But as I sit here and reminisce over one of the worst events I've been involved in, a couple of things come to mind. Walshy is still here with us and he now knows enough not to look to much at the foliage!!
Keep your eyes on the road and watch out for slippery leaves!!
Ride safely!!
