Top Gun

I went to Troy yesterday to take delivery of my 2005 K1200LT. I was lucky to have some traveling partners in Walshy and Doc Edkin and the weather was looking kind of "iffy" at best. We got a late start (go figure) as I was trying to finalize the finance part of the deal at home. On our arrival, it was beginning to sprinkle. A cager had almost taken Walshy and Wayne out about a mile before we arrived at MAX BMW. Both Walshy and Wayne gave the incompetent fool their most evil glares and lo and behold, he backed off completely and disappeared. Fortunately, I didn't have to make another call to Mrs. Walshy. . .
As we walked into the store, I looked around for a graphite K12LT and I was pleased to see one right next to the salesperson's desk and what a beauty it was!
Wayne appeared to have the look of contentment of a trout angler in the Delaware River, a glazed look in his eye, as he wandered about the showroom of the world's finest motorcycles. I introduced Walshy and Wayne to my salesman Katie and the store owner Max and Walshy started talking dealer talk with them.
Meanwhile, I set to the task of signing, signing and more signing, while looking over the new ride on the center stand next to me. Meanwhile, Wayne was picking up odds and ends taking them to the counter, a veritable kid in a candy store! Katie disppeared and then reappeared with BMW T-shirts for all of us (just like at Performance).
As Max was changing over the license plate, I was transferring my gear to the new steed. I made sure I grabbed the $100 coffee mug holder first, so as not to forget it. We were working in a nisty rain after a deluge and we were anxious to get on the road.
As we bid our farewells and donned our rain gear, the sky was darkening and Wayne had our route home planned, as my GPS was in my garage, awaiting the transplant into the new ride. Wayne took the lead and off we rode, heading north to avoid the City of Troy, which is a major PITA to navigate. We were scanning the horizon for an indication of the weather to come and it was looking ominous and foreboding. We rode for about 45 minutes when Wayne said we should turn around and head in the other direction, as the Vermont border was appearing before us. We changed course and hit some great roads (and some awful rain, but then it's a G'nH ride, right?), this time heading south and west. We eventually hit SR-20 after meandering through Saratoga Springs and Amsterdam. It was getting dark. We clipped along at a leisurely pace, as I struggled to keep the revs down and the speed down, as well. After what seemed like a day, we hit SR-46N to Oneida and Doc showed us the way to the T-way at Canastota and Walshy and I took a slow pace home. It was funny to watch Walshy struggling with the tickets and money for the T-way. Anyway, a good day with good company and I am thoroughly impressed with this bike. My '04 was great, but the improvements from '04 to '05 were many and very noticeable. I'd be remiss, if I didn't offer sincere gratitude to Stu and Gary for their surgical expertise in cannibalizing the '04. They spent about 3 hours dissecting and reconnecting and in the end, it was a masterful job. I only hope we can get everything back onto the new bike!
I've attached a photo of the new bike. Take a look!

Rider's meeting on Sunday is a problem for some. I know Mike D is working til 4. I have a graduation party. We were thinking of doing it at 5P and ordering pizza and wings, but I probably won't get there til 7 or so. Spring riders, PM either me or Stu and let us know your thoughts. Of course, we could always make the meeting the night of the 29th. Stu, Gary, Mike and I will be at Turners making the sandwiches for lunch anyway. Let me know.
Ride safely!
