PAC Sports Smoker
The 1st Annual PAC Sports Smoker was a big hit at the Club. While there were some pins and needles in the weeks leading up to the event and some trepidations about low turnout, they appeared to be unfounded. The Bar was packed preceding the event and then everyone gravitated to the gym, anxious to hear Frank Layden's remarks. And they were not to be disappointed, either. Bud Poliquin and Jim Lurch broadcast their program from the Presidents' Room and pitched the event throughout the afternoon and Bud did the introduction of the Dais, including Dennis DuVal, Carmen Basilio, Greg Sorrentino and John and Tex Simone. Bud then took the opportunity to recognize another special person in attendance, Syracuse's Dolph Schayes and his wife.
Before Frank Layden began speaking, the attendees were treated to a fabulous potpouri of food stations.
Frank then began his presentation that would last for over an hour. One of the attendees summed it up by saying "my cheeks hurt from laughing so much!"
The crowd roared its approval and as the evening closed, the silent auction winners were read, their sports memorabilia retrieved and many remained late into the night reminiscing with old friends.
All in all, this was a great event for our Club and Paul and Dom are to be commended for their hard work in pulling this off and many were heard to say they couldn't wait for the next one!
For all the Pastimers who supported this, your support means a great deal to the Club and we took in several new members from this wonderful evening!
